Susan Graham Makes Role Debut in New Met Opera Production of Lulu

Grape Short Sleeve V Neck Long Chiffon Bridesmaid DressSusan Graham returns to the Metropolitan Opera for a new production of Alban Berg’s Lulu by visual artist William Kentridge, making her role debut on November 5 as the cunning Countess Geschwitz. Marlis Petersen brings her interpretation of the title role, a sexually irresistible young woman whose wanton behavior causes destruction for those who fall under her spell. Lothar Koenigs and Derrick Inouye split conducting duties, leading a cast that also includes Daniel Brenna, Paul Groves, Johan Reuter, and Franz Grundheber. Watch a trailer of the production here.

Repeat performances take place on November 9, 14, 17, 21, 24, and 28 as well as December 3. Lulu will be transmitted to more than 2,000 screens in 70 countries across the globe as part of the Met Opera’s Live in HD series on November 21. Find tickets to Lulu and more information here.

Susan Graham Sings for Pope Francis

Susan Graham had the honor of performing for His Holiness Pope Francis during an Evening Prayer service held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on September 24. She was joined by the Saint Patrick’s Cathedral Choir andCathedral Orchestra for “Laudate Dominum” from Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de confessore at the service, which was attended by church leaders and  political dignitaries and was broadcast live by an array of media outlets.

An Evening with Mercury Baroque

Susan Graham returns to Texas to join Mercury Baroque, under the baton of Artistic Director Antoine Plante, for “An Evening with Susan Graham”, an evening of opera arias and more on Saturday, September 19. Presented in celebration of Mercury’s 15th Anniversary Season, the program includes Susan’s performances of “When I’m laid in earth” from Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas and “Ombra ai fu” from Handel’s Serse, in addition to orchestral performances of Haydn and Mozart. Listen to Susan’s conversation about the performance with Houston Public Media.

A Look Ahead to the 2015-16 Season

Susan Graham kicks off her 2015-16 season with a solo recital in Washington, DC with her good friend, composer Jake Heggie on piano, featuring the world premiere of Heggie’s song cycle Iconic Legacies: First Ladies at the Smithsonian, with lyrics by Gene Scheer.  Following this, Susan travels to Houston for a concert with Mercury Baroque. In November she returns to the Metropolitan Opera for a new production of Berg’s Lulu by artist-director William Kentridge, making her role debut as Countess Geschwitz opposite Marlis Petersen in the title role under the baton of James Levine. Susan reunites with Levine for her next starring role at the Met, in Strauss’s frothy Fledermaus, which the Music Director looks forward to conducting for the first time in his 45-year Met career. Donning pants as Prince Orlofsky, the mezzo heads a cast that also features Susanna Phillips and Toby Spence.

Susan makes two appearances at Carnegie Hall in the coming season: first with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, and then at a special concert of her own in company with her closest musical friends. She gives solo recitals in Boston, Puerto Rico, Vienna, and at London’s Wigmore Hall, before wrapping up the season singing Brahms’s Alto Rhapsody with the San Francisco Symphony and Michael Tilson Thomas.
